Can a nightgown really help you sleep better?

When you experience hot flashes while sleeping, you either wake up constantly to throw your covers off, or you sleep through them - in which case, you'll wake up drenched. Neither option is desirable and if it happens often enough, you'll become sleep-deprived. The effects of sleep deprivation can be felt within as little as 7 days. Over the long-term sleep deprivation can lead to serious physical and mental health issues.

Our nightgown is made from totally fantastic fabric that naturally absorbs heat in its fibres and wicks moisture away from your skin so fast you may not ever feel damp.

The result is that you notice your temperature fluctuations less - which means there is less cover-flipping and less waking up. Chances are you won't have to change your nightgown in the middle of the night. In fact, many of our customers with night sweats sleep through the night again.

It seems expensive

We’re out to change the way you sleep so you don’t have to change in the middle of the night.

We know our nightgowns aren’t cheap. If we could make them for less we would because we want as many women who suffer from night sweats to try it as possible.

There are two big reasons why we charge so much: fabric and labour.

Fabric: The fabric is unique and definitely not cheap. It is a relatively unknown, misunderstood, underappreciated fabric whose benefits have been ignored for the last 90 years. Instead of searching out the latest and greatest technical fabric, we looked to ancient methods for cooling and moisture management. These are proven, incredibly effective materials that are friendlier on the planet.

While there are cheaper methods of processing the fabric, we chose a factory that uses steam instead of the cheaper and more toxic chemical processing. It’s better for you and better for the environment. It also has excellent labour and waste management practices.

In a nutshell our fabric:

  • Is the most responsive natural, organic fabric for night sweats available,
  • Uses low-impact dyes that are safe next to your skin and don't pollute waterways during processing,
  • Is made in a factory with responsible labour practices.

Labour: Our nightgowns are made in Montreal, Quebec, where we can monitor developments and make tweaks to the pattern. They are made quickly by an amazing shop with a highly responsive and experienced team.

Finally, the yarn is incredibly strong unlike cheaper rayon or cotton. In fact, this nightgown will probably outlast your night sweats, so one is all you’ll ever need.

Night sweats aside, we want to be able to sleep at night knowing that the fabric we source and the workers who make our garments are well looked after.

While these decisions lead to a higher price than an average nightgown, our planet has enough problems, and the textile industry is a large contributor to pollution, biodiversity loss, and climate change. Although we aren’t perfect, we want to be part of the industry’s solution and not part of the problem.  (You can read about our sustainability practices here).

Will it work for me?

We believe that our sleepwear provides one part of the sleep puzzle.

There are many night sweats triggers and not everyone reacts the same way to every trigger. Identifying which triggers are your weak points and eliminating them is equally important as wearing the right sleepwear.

Many of our customers already use hormone replacement therapy – and even with that, they are still bothered by night sweats. Others have eliminated many foods and beverages from their diets and they are still getting night sweats too.

But then we have customers who only need the nightgown to start sleeping through the night again. Our night sweats journal is included with every sleepwear purchase and it can help you identify and eliminate your triggers.

We can’t guarantee that this nightgown will work for you the way it’s worked for others. That’s why we offer the 60 day wear it and love it guarantee.

If you don’t see a noticeable improvement in your sleep due to night sweats relief, contact us and we’ll send you a postage slip to send it back.

When wearing your Simone nightgown there should be:

Less cover-flipping = better, uninterrupted, sleep =  wake up rested = happy mornings = better days = conquer the world!

Okay, maybe that last step is a slight exaggeration, but you get the idea. You get your sleep back, you feel like you again.

Does it need special washing care?

The great thing about the fabric is that it is totally easy to care for. Throw it in the wash in cold water on a regular cycle. Hang it to dry or tumble dry on low heat. However, it doesn't like bleach or high heat, so don't use hot water or the dryer on high. You can read the full care instructions here.

How long will the nightgown last?

The fabric is extremely durable. Our sewers are experts and the nightgown is built to last. Our test nightgown has been washed twice weekly and worn every night for 700+ nights and it still looks like new.

One other advantage of the fabric is that it is anti-bacterial. The fabric naturally kills bacteria so it smells less and needs washing less often.

What is the fabric and what does it feel like?

The nightgown is made from hemp and organic cotton. It feels like a medium-weight cotton t-shirt. If you want to learn more about how we evaluate and select fabric, read our post on the fabric selection process

Do you offer any other styles, sizes or colours?

Right now we call our Simone nightgown -  The Little Black (night) Dress - classic, elegant enough to wear out, but made for wearing in. It's available in one colour, three sizes and currently it's all we offer.

We are planning to release more styles and colours in the future in different and equally effective fabrics. We are unveiling a pj set in summer 2023. If you want to stay in the know about new arrivals, please sign up for our newsletter.

Our goal is function - helping you sleep better, so before we launch into new styles, colours and fabrics we want to ensure it's performing perfectly. Which, according to our happy customers, it is.

Do you only sell online?

At the moment we sell primarily online. We have a retailer in the west-end of Toronto, Loved and Found Boutique,  and Thornbury Pharmasave in Thornbury, Ontario, and Brant Arts in Burlington, ON where you can buy it in person. We understand that not everyone likes to buy their clothes online, so we are always looking for like-minded boutiques to sell our clothes. If you're a retailer interested in selling our brand, please contact us at service@coolyoursweats.com

I don't live near your partner stores and I'm not sure which size is best for me, what should I do?

We want to save you time and trouble. Please refer to our size chart regarding sizing - we have listed the measurements in both Imperial and Metric units. The sizing is generous and the design is deliberately loose. When you are having a night sweat, the last thing you want is a tight fitting garment.

If you're really not sure, please contact us at service@coolyoursweats.com and we will help you decide which size will work for you.

If I order online, how long will it take to get to me?

Our internal processing time is 24 hours from order placement, Monday through Friday. If you order on the weekend, it will be processed on Monday.

For almost all of our orders we use Canada Post. We've shipped to the US, Europe,  Australia, and Canada using priority shipping and all orders have arrived within two weeks. As we ship from Montreal, on average it takes about 4 business days for parcels to get to Toronto or New York, 6-8 business days to get to western Canada and the US (including passing through customs), and two weeks to get to Australia.

What about duty and taxes?

In Canada, standard sales tax rates apply in Quebec, Ontario and the Atlantic provinces. In the rest of the country, only GST applies.

There is no duty on orders to the US, where we ship by USPS.

Some European countries, as well as the UK, now have mandatory VAT charges on any items purchased by their citizens regardless of whether the vendors are in that country or not. We suggest at this time, you order through our Etsy portal, as Etsy calculates and pays all the taxes and duties for you.

What if my package arrives damaged?

We understand that items can get damaged while in transit. It's why we always use shipping with a tracking number. Take pictures and send Canada Post a note along with the tracking number. Then contact us and we will try to help you solve the problem.

What about returns?

For our wear it and love it 60 day guarantee, please contact us to arrange the return. If you tried it on and decided it isn't right for you or it doesn't fit, please contact us to arrange a return and we'll send you a return label so you can return it. Once we've received it we'll credit your account.
