Linen Throw
Linen Throw
If you've spent any time with our fabric guide, you already know linen and hemp sit at the very top of my sleepwear and bedding list — more breathable than cotton, better at managing heat, and they soften every time you wash them.
This 100% linen throw is the most painless way to experience linen before committing to full linen sheets. As a throw, not a bed blanket, the stakes are low and the payoff is real. As your thermal layer, try it on top of your essential percale 100% organic cotton where it will manage heat and moisture while you sleep.

🌿 About the Fabric
Every blanket and throw in this collection is made from natural fibres — no polyester, no synthetic blends, nothing that traps heat against you. This matters specifically for the thermal layer because a blanket's job is to absorb any moisture that makes it through your sheets and allow heat to escape upward and outward.
Synthetic fibres can't do either of these things reliably. They seal the layer, trap moisture, and undo the work your sleepwear and sheets have already done. Both cotton and linen — the two materials in this collection — are natural, breathable fibres that absorb moisture and keep it moving. Cotton is accessible and familiar; linen is more breathable and a stronger performer for consistent warm sleepers. The specific fabric details for each product are in The Details section above.
🛏️ Why This Works in Your Sleep System
Your thermal layer — the duvet or blankets above your sheets — is where the biggest night sweats problem is usually created. A heavy duvet or polyester comforter sits on top of everything and acts as a lid. All the heat and moisture your sleepwear and sheets worked to move outward hits that layer and comes right back.
Why blankets beat duvets for night sweats
A duvet is a fixed amount of warmth you either have or don't. On a warm night, it's too much. You throw it off. You get cold. You pull it back. That cycle — the covers on, covers off pattern — is often the thermal layer fighting your body's temperature swings rather than working with them.
A throw blanket is a low-commitment way to find out which fabric works for you before investing in a full blanket.
How it fits the system
Your sleepwear manages moisture and heat at the skin. Your sheets absorb and release it upward. Your thermal layer is the final handoff — it absorbs what the sheets pass up and lets it evaporate into the room. A breathable natural fibre blanket keeps that chain working. A sealed synthetic layer stops it.
A practical note on warmth
Natural fibre blankets feel lighter than a filled duvet, which can feel surprising at first. But less weight doesn't mean less warmth when the fibre is doing its job. Most night sweats sufferers find they sleep better with one or two natural blankets than under a duvet — because the body isn't fighting the seal. Start with one layer and add from there.
🧺 Care
All natural fibre blankets and throws benefit from gentle care that preserves the fibre structure without stripping the natural properties that make them work.General care for this collection:
- Machine wash in cool or warm water with a mild detergent
- Wash with similar colours and fabrics — avoid items with zippers or hooks that can cause pilling
- Tumble dry on low heat, or hang to dry for best results
- Avoid chlorine bleach, benzoyl peroxide, and harsh chemical fabric treatments
- Do not use fabric softener — it coats the fibres and reduces breathability over time
Natural fibre blankets soften with washing. If yours feels stiff initially — particularly a linen throw — give it several washes before making a judgement. The softening is real and ongoing.
(Note: benzoyl peroxide is a common acne cream and can bleach fabrics. Let it absorb fully on skin before lying on sheets to avoid discolouration.

💬Throw Blanket FAQs
Should I be using a blanket or a duvet for night sweats?
For most night sweats sufferers, blankets are the better choice — and often dramatically so. A duvet, regardless of fill material, creates a sealed thermal environment. Even natural-fill duvets (down, wool, silk) limit your ability to adjust without fully removing the layer. Blankets let you add and remove warmth in smaller increments as your body temperature shifts through the night.
In summer, a single throw or light blanket is often all you need above your sheets.
In winter, layering two natural fibre blankets (cotton, wool or linen) gives you warmth and the ability to kick one off at 3 a.m. without waking up freezing five minutes later.
What's the difference between a throw and a blanket — does it matter for sleep?
A throw is smaller and lighter than a full bed blanket — typically designed for the sofa or to drape over the end of the bed.
For night sweats, this distinction matters: a throw is a lower-commitment way to add a breathable natural fibre layer without fully replacing your current thermal setup.
If you've never slept under a cotton or linen layer before, a throw is a useful test. If it works — and for most warm sleepers it does — you can move to a full blanket with confidence.
How many blankets do I need?
It depends on the season and your room temperature. A useful starting point:
- Summer: Sheets only, or sheets plus one light throw on nights when you need just a little more
- Transitional seasons: One blanket — cotton or linen — over your percale sheets
- Winter: One or two natural fibre blankets, layered so you can remove one if your temperature spikes
The goal is to have just enough warmth to feel comfortable when you fall asleep, knowing your body will warm the space between the layers. Too many blankets and heat builds up. Too few and the chill phase of a night sweat wakes you.
What makes cotton or linen better than a regular blanket for night sweats?
Most household blankets are made from polyester, acrylic, or polyester blends — materials that trap heat and moisture rather than absorbing and releasing them. They feel soft, but once your body produces heat or moisture, it has nowhere to go.
Natural fibres behave differently: they absorb moisture actively and then release it, which keeps the thermal layer from becoming a damp, clammy barrier between you and a comfortable night. Cotton is reliable and familiar — it absorbs moisture well and dries fastest when it's exposed to the air. Linen, while not as soft as cotton, is the stronger performer: its hollow fibre structure means it absorbs and releases heat and moisture more actively, and it stays cooler to the touch for longer.
Both are meaningfully better than any synthetic blanket for night sweats.
Will a throw or light blanket be warm enough in winter?
For most warm sleepers, yes — especially when layered. The key shift is thinking about warmth differently: natural fibre blankets work with your body's own heat rather than sealing it in, which means you feel warmer without the overheating. In a properly cooled room (15–18°C is ideal for night sweats), one or two light natural blankets will keep you comfortable through the night. If you find yourself cold, add another blanket rather than switching to a heavier duvet — you keep the control without sacrificing the breathability.
Does thread count or weight apply to blankets the way it does to sheets?
Not in the same way. For sheets, thread count directly affects breathability. For blankets and throws, the relevant factors are fibre type, weave structure, and weight. A lighter cotton blanket with an open weave — like a popcorn or waffle knit — will be more breathable than a dense cotton blanket of the same weight.
Linen is naturally breathable regardless of weight because of its fibre structure. Focus on natural fibre content and an open weave over any specific weight or count specification.
